Geko Dive Bali has been running dives from Jalan Silayukti, on the beach in Padangbai, since 1997, which makes it the oldest dive shop in this small east-coast port. It is a PADI 5 Star Resort and, according to PADI, was East Bali's first PADI Asia Pacific TecRec technical diving centre. The team speaks English, Indonesian and Balinese as well as French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Local dives go to Blue Lagoon, Jepun and the more exposed Shark Point at Gili Biaha, all reached in minutes on Geko's own boat, and the shop also runs day trips to the USAT Liberty wreck at Tulamben and to Manta Point, Crystal Bay and the north coast of Nusa Penida, plus three- and five-day Bali dive safaris. Lunch at the on-site restaurant is included after dives, and transfers can be arranged from Ubud, Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak, Nusa Dua and Candidasa.
PADI training runs from Bubblemaker and Discover Scuba Diving through Open Water, Advanced and Rescue to Master Scuba Diver and Divemaster internships, with specialties including Deep, Wreck, Drift, Night, Sidemount, Self Reliant and Digital Underwater Photographer. Technical courses include TDI Intro to Tech, Sidemount, Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures. At the time of writing, two local dives in Padangbai cost IDR 1,400,000, a Tulamben shore day IDR 1,600,000, a Manta Point day IDR 2,200,000 and the PADI Open Water course IDR 6,200,000. Enriched Air Nitrox (28%) is free for certified divers and equipment hire is IDR 200,000 a day. Check the website for current rates.
