Bali Reef Divers grew out of the dive centre at Puri Wirata Resort in Amed, which became Amed's first PADI 5 Star Resort in 2009 and took the Bali Reef Divers name in 2010. Its main base is on Jl. Raya Bunutan in Amed, with a second dive centre on the main road in Tulamben (opened in 2012) and two places to stay: the ocean-front Puri Wirata Dive Resort, with a pool and spa, and the newer 16-room Kura Kura Divers Lodge, around 80 metres from the sea and about 20 minutes from Tulamben. The Tulamben centre also offers cheaper dorm and private rooms. Much of the guiding team is local to Amed and Tulamben.
Diving covers the full stretch of east Bali coast. In Amed the centre lists Jemeluk Bay and Jemeluk Wall, the Pyramids, Bunutan Reef and the Japanese Shipwreck, all suitable for most levels, plus more advanced boat sites such as Deep Blue, Bluu Rocks, Chinese Restaurant, Selang Bay and Gili Selang at Bali's eastern tip. Tulamben's USAT Liberty wreck and its neighbouring sites are worked from the Tulamben base, and day trips to north and south Bali can be arranged. Equipment is included in the dive prices, and Nitrox fills are available.
Training follows the PADI system: Discover Scuba Diving, Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue, Emergency First Response, specialties and PADI eLearning, with Divemaster internships for those going pro. Dive-and-stay and course packages are offered at both lodges.
