Tulamben Wreck Divers opened in April 2003, founded by Tony and Dot Medcraft, who previously ran Exmouth Dive Centre in Western Australia for more than 11 years, together with local divemaster and businessman Wayan Ambek. It is now one of the largest and longest-established dive centres in Tulamben and a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort, and all of its guides and instructors are local, many of them with the business since the start.
The resort is just a short walk from the USAT Liberty, Bali's best-known wreck dive, and its rooms sit in a shady garden behind the dive shop. There are two pools, one purpose-built for dive training with a proper deep end, an on-site espresso café and restaurant, and three room types (Deluxe, Superior and Penthouse), all with air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms.
Besides the Liberty, the team dives the Drop Off, Coral Garden and other Tulamben sites, and runs trips to Amed, Padangbai and Candidasa, Nusa Lembongan and Menjangan. Courses include Discover Scuba, Open Water, Advanced, Rescue and the PADI Enriched Air Diver course, and Nitrox is available for certified divers. All-inclusive packages combine rooms, diving, breakfast and airport transfers.
At the time of writing, published rates were USD 33 (IDR 495,000) per day dive with full equipment, guide and dive tax included, USD 38 per night dive, USD 115 per day for unlimited diving and USD 5 per dive for Nitrox. Check the website for current rates.
