Dive Go Where

Tulamben

Tulamben, on Bali's northeast coast, is famous for one dive above all: the USAT Liberty, a US Army cargo ship torpedoed in 1942, beached here and pushed into the sea by the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung. Today the wreck lies on a black-sand slope from about 5 to 30 metres, covered in corals and fish, and it is reached by walking in from the beach. Because it is so close to shore, the Liberty can be dived at dawn, at night and in almost any weather, and it suits everyone from Discover Scuba divers to photographers chasing pygmy seahorses. Nearby, the Drop Off, Coral Garden and Seraya Secrets add wall diving and some of Bali's best muck diving. Tulamben's dive centres are mostly small and resort-based, often with rooms just a few steps from the water.
