Manta Dive opened on Gili Trawangan in 1999 and sits on the island's busy east-coast strip, just in front of the harbour. After many years as a PADI 5 Star centre it moved to SSI and is now an SSI Diamond rated dive centre and Instructor Training Facility. It is the sister centre of Manta Dive Gili Air.
Training runs from Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver and Open Water through Advanced, Nitrox, Deep and Stress & Rescue to Divemaster and the SSI Instructor Training Course, with kids' programmes and TDI technical courses including sidemount. Three traditional outrigger boats leave from in front of the shop, and every site is within about 20 minutes: Shark Point, Manta Point, Deep Turbo, Halik, the Bounty wreck, Meno Wall, Turtle Point, Takat Malang and others around all three Gilis. Fun dives include full equipment and go to 30 metres, or 40 metres with a Deep qualification.
Behind the dive centre, Manta Dive Resort has traditional lumbung bungalows, deluxe and standard rooms and villas set in gardens around a 20-metre pool, plus a café and Chappie's Bar on the beach. At the time of writing a fun dive cost IDR 640,000 (about USD 38), falling to IDR 512,000 a dive for ten or more, and a night dive IDR 790,000. The Gili Matra Marine Park fee of IDR 100,000 is paid separately once a year. Check the website for current rates.
