Azul Komodo is a small PADI 5 Star IDC dive centre on Jalan Soekarno Hatta, the main street of Labuan Bajo on Flores, run by co-owners Melissa Joy and Simon in association with Azul Unlimited. It is a PADI Eco Center and a Green Fins member with Silver certification, and it takes part in Trash Hero clean-ups and local youth education. The office and dive boat are free of single-use plastics, reef-safe sunscreen is provided on board, and lunch on day trips is freshly made vegetarian food, with other diets catered for on request.
Daily trips run into Komodo National Park on Asmara, an 18-metre hand-built wooden dive boat, to sites such as Batu Bolong, Manta Point and Castle Rock. Groups are limited to four divers per guide, and courses to a small number of students per instructor. Day trips can include two or three dives, a two-dive day combined with a ranger-guided Komodo dragon trek on Rinca, a three-dive Nitrox day, a refresher day for divers who have been out of the water, or a snorkelling trip for non-divers. The same owners also run the Blue Lotus phinisi liveaboard for small groups of up to ten divers.
PADI courses run from Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver with Emergency First Response, and Enriched Air (Nitrox) to Divemaster internships and the Instructor Development Course. Full equipment is included in trip and course prices.
