Coron

Coron, in the Calamian Islands of northern Palawan, is one of Asia's top wreck-diving destinations. In September 1944 US aircraft sank a fleet of Japanese supply ships in Coron Bay, and around a dozen of the wrecks now lie at recreational depths, covered in coral and home to big shoals of fish. The best known include the Akitsushima seaplane tender, the Okikawa Maru tanker and the Irako refrigeration ship, some suitable for penetration dives with the right training. Between wreck dives, Barracuda Lake offers a surreal freshwater dive with layers of warm and cool water. Coron town's dive centres run daily wreck trips, wreck specialty courses and technical diving.
